Sigma Theta History
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. is the first African-American fraternal organization to be founded at a historically black college. Omega Psi Phi was founded on Friday November 17, 1911, on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. by three undergraduate students and their faculty advisor. The founders were Howard University Undergraduates -Hon. Edgar Amos Love, Hon. Oscar James Cooper and Hon. Frank Coleman; the faculty advisor was Hon. Dr. Ernest Everett Just.
The value of our Fraternity is not in numbers, but in men, in real brotherhood. Eight men throughly immersed in the true omega spirit are far greater assets than eighty with lukewarm enthusiasm. Do thy duty; that is best; leave unto the Lord the rest.
